Veloop Oy’s remote monitoring system already monitors the operations of more than 20 waste stations around Finland. Centralised monitoring in Ylivieska enables smooth and flexible service for customers and cost-efficiency for municipalities.

EU recycling targets, changes in procurement law and growing demands from local authorities are challenging waste management to reform faster than ever. Veloop Oy has risen to the challenge by providing municipalities and waste management companies with modern solutions that make waste collection stations more customer-oriented, safer and easier to manage.

One key solution is Veloop’s remote monitoring station in Ylivieska, which for several years has been monitoring the operations of more than 20 recycling stations from Salla to Helsinki and in the area covered by waste management company Vestia. Thanks to the monitoring station, the waste stations operate as self-service stations where customers can do their business flexibly and safely without the constant presence of staff.

– The control room is the backbone of the customer experience at self-service stations. It ensures that every customer gets the support they need right from the start. Monitoring prevents sorting errors, solves customer problems quickly,” says Minna Sipilä, Veloop’s monitoring manager.

At Veloop’s own recycling stations, which are based on the Sorting Yard concept, the benefits of the control room are also visible at the point of sale. According to a customer survey, in 2021 only 40% of customers preferred to use the self-service option, whereas in 2025 this figure has already risen to 90%.

With more than 20 waste stations under management, Veloop has the most experience in the field of remote monitoring in the waste management sector or remotely monitored waste stations. This allows municipalities to efficiently implement services, optimise costs and improve recycling rates, while maintaining a high level of customer experience.

– The expert services we offer are particularly useful for municipalities and waste management companies that often do not have the expertise to carry out waste management projects,” says Jukka Saukko, Veloop’s project manager.

Vestia’s market-based business in a new format

Legislation is steering services towards a more market-based approach. Veloop Oy is responding to this need by becoming the new market-based business unit of waste management company Vestia Oy. The services previously offered under the Vestia Sorting Yard name to municipalities, waste management companies and industrial enterprises will be strengthened by expertise and by expanding the range of services. With this change, the company aims to provide better solutions for the development of waste management.

– Our expertise in waste management and in combining digitalisation and self-service with monitoring can also be applied in sectors such as industry or construction,” Saukko says.
